Brief Description:  Vertical and Horizontal Stab Work

Today was mostly spent jumping between finishing the priming prep for the vertical stab and laying out the horizontal stab rear spar. I really recommend not following the order of Van's instructions and working on the vertical stab first. It is a nice warmup for what is in store with the horizontal stab. The horizontal is not difficult, but just more complex. My work now is being held up by my lack of a primer. When you start your kit, have the primer decision already made, have it on your shelf, and have a plan on how you are going to paint. This will save you a lot of time. I only have one of those three decisions made and I am going to lose about a week of time because of it.

I ordered Stewart Systems water based primer last week, but it did not make it in time for the weekend. A couple of my builder friends swear by it.

The build is going just fine; there is nothing so far that I have been surprised by. I am going to the EAA "sheet metal" class next weekend. I really hope I learn something different than the "Van's construction course" and that it is not a waste of time.
