I had my first major set-back. I did not do a good job attaching the piano hinge and riveting up one of the elevators. I made the mistake of not having the elevator root assembly temporarily attached to the elevator when I was drilling/riveting the elevator/piano hinge. This caused the root end of the elevator to be closed too much. Instead of having a nice straight edge, I introduced hump/slant to the elevator. Not only was the elevator no longer flat on my workbench, it would rock slightly, The piano hinge was not straight and had a bend to it. I tried to re-drill and straighten this out and had limited succes. I got most of the rock out of the surface but the hinge was still not straight. It had both a hump and a dip in it. I figured it would be best to just re-make the elevator and have it be perfect. Parts are on order with Sonex. Arrrgh!!!!
Hard to see but hinge is not straight.
Another shot of crooked hinge.
Drilled out the rivets and removed the root rib from the horn assembly.
