Received the step for a RV-8a along with the rear throttle mounting plate. Have decided to install on the 8. I will modify the length after researching height at the step location on an RV-8 with grove gear and bell tail wheel. The weldment received was slightly off the curve of the fuselage. I made a cardboard template of the inside of the fuselage at the step location. I then transferred the template to a 2 x 6 and cut out the shape on the band saw. I used this backing block in a table vise. Then used a body hammer from the good old days and reshaped the weldment to the block. All fit like a glove afterwards. As per instructions, I made doubler plates for the inside along with fitting the 3/4" supplied block step support to the inside inner most floor rib. Drilled the block and the doubler plates to match the step weldment. Clecoed all in place to match drill all. All fit well. Now to get necessary height distancefrom a plane with grove gear so as to trim step at a later date to the right height.
