Brief Description:  Install oil/lubrication system lines

Today was my first work on the plane in over a month. I have been up in Northern California assigned to the wildfires, most notably the Basin Complex Fires near Big Sur and Carmel.

The oil/lubrication line routing from the oil pump to the heads, out to the oil tank, on to the cooler and back to the oil pump took a bit of trial and error to get fitted and installed. First, the manual indicates that two distinct types of hose are used for the installation, but I only had one type of hose in the parts inventory. The correct routing the oil return line from the bottom of the engine to the oil tank was also not very clear or intuitive. From reading other builder's posts I noted that several routes have been used, including routing the return line from the bottom of the engine, around the front and across the top of the motor to the tank.

I contacted the factory tech support for advice. First, they now use only one type of oil line for the entire loop system (first issue resolved). Next, the oil line can fit (barely) from the bottom of the motor to the rear of the motor passing through the engine mount. Ed sent me several photos that made this clear. The manual also recommends utilizing fire-resistant hose sleeves on all the oil and fuel lines in the engine compartment, but RANS does not supply that product. Another trip to Aircraft Spruce for very pricey silicone-based fireproof hose and other parts resulted.

One other issue is the clearance between the hose leading to the cooler from the oil tank and the coolant return hose that leads fromt the expansion tank on top of the motor to the radiator. If I had this to do over I would route both of those hoses at the same time instead of doing the oil line prior to even installing the radiator.
