Today I worked on installing the boot cowl, which includes fastening the instrument panel to the glare shield. The instrument panel is fastened to the glare shield angle brackets using stainless steel screws threaded into nut-plates or some other fastener. I studied using nut plates but determined that I did not have sufficient room/area on the angle brackets. Next option was to use riv-nuts inserted into the angle brackets.
I installed aluminum riv-nuts into the brackets and did a trial check to ensure that they all lined up correctly with the instrument panel screw holes. After again removing the boot cowl I fastened the glare shield to the boot cowl, then re-fitted the whole assembly on the fuselage.
