I started back to work on the plane this week. I am lumping several days of work together on one post to catch up on my progress.
Since moving the plane to the hanger we have installed the lift struts, re-installed the ailerons (removed for transport to the hanger), and some other miscellaneous work.
I had to come up with a way to jack the tail of the plane up to level the fuselage for the wing and control surface rigging. I found a tall adjustable automotive jack at Harbor Freight that fit the bill perfectly. The jack is intended to holding up transmissions, mufflers, exhaust systems etc, and has a #1500 capacity. The jacking platform has a threaded jack-screw arrange that allows fairly fine adjustment, and with the relatively light weight of the tail of the plane it adjusts quite smoothly, making it a bargain at $50.
I leveled the plane (pitch & roll) per the manual. Sean and Mike (home from Chico State for Labor Day) assisted in setting the wing washout. This actually went much more easily than I had anticipated. We then installed the Jury Struts, which included fitting the fairings for the aft strut/teleflex flap cable/fuel vent cluster.
