Brief Description:  windshield fitting continued

I did some more work to get the windshield unit ready for final installation. The lower-front corners of the windshield stuck out and away from the cowl, and appeared to be too much out of fit to capture and pull into position with the trim strip.

After some experimentation on come of the cut-off scraps of acrylic material, I decided to heat the lower corners and to attempt to form them into a more conforming shape. Using a heat gun and judicious application of heat, I was able to heat and re-form the corners to more closely match the cowl shape.

I also did some final clean-up on the edges of the windshield. I used progressively finer grades of sandpaper, then foam sanding blocks to clean-up the edges. They now have a nice rounded-over look and feel, no scratches or roughness, and appear to have been polished. I believe that the windshield unit is ready for installation.

I did a trial fit using the RANS supplied aluminum trim material. The result was unacceptable. The trim strip just does not fit, or conform to the shape of either the boot cowl or windshield. I used cardboard to make a template that conforms to both the cowl and windshield, as well as to the bottom edges of the windscreen just forward of the doors. I will be cutting out some replacement trim strips using the templates.
