Brief Description:  Root-rib panels (part two)

Part two of today's entry

One issue that has received much discussion is how to route the aft fuel line from the tank outlet through the access panel. The fuel line needs to pass beneath the drag/compression tube that lies just behind the panel. There is insufficient space for the fuel line to pass beneath the tube, over the root-rib bottom tube and out the panel. The gap between the compression and rib tubes is too narrow, and the fuel line would be severely pinched passing between them. Goind over the compression tube looks inviting, but could cause fuel starvation problems when the fuel level in the tank is low. There has been much discussion of this issue among the Yahoo builders group members, and the consensus is that the best method to address this issue is to pinch the root-rib bottom tube just enough to allow the fuel line to pass without restriction.

I contacted Ed at Rans factory Tech Support. He advised that the above described method is still the best work-around so far.

I used a backing block of birch to support the bottom of the root rib tube, and a "C" clamp to pinch the tube down (see photos). I pinched the rib tube just enough to allow the fuel line to pass through without restriction.
