Brief Description:  Page 1 And so it begins. Purchased Searey Kit

I was going to wait till September 2012 to buy a kit from Progressive Aerodyne so it would be cooler in the Fall to build in the garage. But then I saw an Ad on Barnstormers for a 2011 Searay LSX kit with the flying surfaces built for $30,000.00. The kit included Electric Flaps, Deluxe LSX Seat Upgrade, Matco Wheel Upgrade and a Aussie Aluminum Fuel Tank.
Even though I had a saved price from Progressive for $27,900.00, the options that this kit had and the built and covered wings made it a deal I could not pass up. The price broke down to $23,750.00 for the kit and $6,250.00 labor to build and cover the wings.
The wing build and fabric covering was the one thing I did not think I could do a perfect job on. And I want a perfect Searey. As far as the experence on building and fabric covering the wings, I will get that helping Bill Starkey on his Searey kit that he is building in my garage.
The kit was purchased from Progressive Aerodyne by Fred Rawlins in 2011. He contracted Jim Ratte of Recreational Mobility to build the flying surfaces who picked them up at Progressive and the rest of the kit was shipped to Fred's home airport in VA. Fred then decited to let Jim build the rest of the kit and trucked it back ot Florida. A year passed before Jim got started on the wings and in the meantime Fred's busness changed and he told Jim to sell the kit. I saw the Ad and got it.
The kit crate had never been open in over a year. I had Jim open it to inspect it.
