Brief Description: Open the canopy and more sanding
Today I went out to the hangar with great trepidation not knowing if the canopy will release or not. Pretty nervous; when I unlocked the canopy and tried to open it didn’t budge. Decided to use a thin steel feeler I have. Tried to slip it under the fiberglass fairing at the left edge and low and behold the feeler slipped under and popped a small area of the fairing free. I moved the feeler all the way around the roll bar with the same result. Pulled on the latch and handle at miracles of miracle the canopy opened. What a relief. I covered the entire avionics/cockpit area using a nylon drop cloth to keep out the dust from sanding. Next I started sanding at the lower left edge of the fairing. I will sand along the entire length of the fairing along the roll bar, use filler and install another layer of fiberglass cloth all around the windscreen fairing.
