Brief Description:  Left Flap Control Rod Fuselage Hole

Sent the hinge bracket pictures to Gus at VANS. Wrote the following:
Gus,
I am enclosing the pictures of the left flap hinge brackets on my RV9-A. All three brackets show the same misalignment and it is obvious that it is the wing brackets that are not aligned correctly. On the third picture I placed a 90 degree angle next to the bracket. The fourth picture shows where the flap bracket rubs against the wing bracket (all three brackets show the same problem, the right wing is OK). A fellow builder and friend who built 5 RVs came over to my hangar yesterday to look at the problem. He said the only way to fix this problem is to install a thin washer on both side of the wing bracket (between the bushing and flap bracket) to eliminate the rubbing of the two parts. I did this and it did eliminate the rubbing (the flap moves freely), however, I do not know if this is the right solution. He said bending the aluminum brackets is not a good idea, because most likely they do not bend evenly and to do all three evenly is almost impossible without the right jig. I hope the washers will be the right answer. If not this, I don’t know what is the right solution. Replacing the wing, even if I could remove the wing, does not guarantee a successful outcome. I need your help.
John
Continue working on the pushrod hole on the side of the fuselage. This is a long process of work and check. In the process of doing this I found a new problem. There is not enough clearance between the fuselage skin and the lower pushrod nut. It is just a hair, but I would like to get more clearance. The problem originates from the bent hinge brackets. Will deal with this tomorrow after I get feedback from Gus.
