Brief Description:  Servo Layout

Layed out the servo actuator rod and access hole cutouts according to plans which puts the rod center-line at 55mm from the rib rivet line. The resulting rod center line fell 8mm to the left of an existing elevator skin rivet so I inquired with Caleb at ZAC as to whether the servo and rod could be shifted outboard either 8mm (over the rivet) or 28mm (symmetrical between rivets). This move would also get the servo more centered under the access hole. Caleb approved the servo move but noted that the location of the access hole was designed to be centered over the rod - which is not centered on the servo - to provide easy access for adjustments so he did not endorse centering the access hole over the servo body. I plan to use the optional "L" doubler to add stiffness to the servo mount.

I also posed a second question relative to lightening holes in the elevator ribs to help offset the weight gained by using 0.020" instead of 0.016". The short answer here is "NO" since there has been no analysis and parts could be substantially weakened. Looks like I'll have to live with the gains. Based on what I've read about some engine installations there may actully be weight & balance advantages to having a heavier tail anyway.
