Brief Description:  First Stabilizer Parts

Cut a 2' length off of the 1/8" inch steel bar then filed edges and cleaned with an abrasive wheel. Using this tool really helped tighten up the bends while creating clean, flat sides bent at 90 degrees as demonstrated on tip ribs 6T1-8 that I formed from 0.020".

Tip: When using the bend line spreadsheet to calculate bend lines on parts dimensioned on the inside (like ribs) you need to compensate for the material thickness by adding this thickness to the Sight Line calculation. This will make the flange slightly wider while tightening the inside dimension to match what would have been created with a form block. In the case of the tip ribs I added 0.5mm (approx 0.020") to the 16.41 calculated and rounded to an even 17mm. The rib came out to within 0.5mm of spec.

Laid out the profile of end rib 6T1-1 on a piece of 3/4" hardwood. Backed with piece of 3/4" pine flooring then rough-cut them together on the bandsaw.

The time required for the above work was less than today's total but I included the time spent doing general clean up and organizing of the work area. I also had to make two sets of tip ribs since the first ones were about 2mm too wide due to incorrect bend line placement on the first set.
