Tonight I was anxious to attempt forming a nose rib. The drawings show a 75 degree angle on the front flange but they do not provide a specific dimension for the flange width on the nose; which obviously tapers up from the 19mm side flanges. So, I made a guestimate based on parts I've seen from other builders and from the ZAC Photo Assembly Guide. Since this was my first attempt at a formed part I was resigned to the idea that it may be sacrificed for the sake of education. After tapping the edges for severl minutes with a plastic mallet and 1/2" oak dowel I was only able to achieve the results shown. However, this gave me insight for my next attempt:
- Consult CS #306 of Construction Standards - Measure all cut lines after the rough blank is sandwiched in place with screws - Taper the tip flange down to 3-4 mm - Deepen crimp detents in the form block - Have a set of crimping pliers or "twist tool" to go up to 6mm deep if necessary - Use 1/4" corner relief per CS #307
