Brief Description:  The "Big Cut"

From the very beginning of the project - one of the dreadded steps has always been the "big cut". This is the cut that separates the sliding canopy section from the windscreen.

The bubble is the single most expensive part in the kit. If I screw it up, there is no fixing it. I gotta buy another $1,100 bubble.

I set up the big cut. I put a couple of strips of duct tape on the bottom of the canopy, because once the cut is made, the canopy tends to get "floppy", and spread.

I set the frame in the bubble with about 50 clamps (I didn't take a picture- not too smart), and carefully maked and taped the cut.

I then positioned the cut to straddle the two work tables, allowing me to pass the saw between the tables. I then fired up the ultrasaw, and cut very carefully.

Very happy with the result. The buildup about the "big cut" turned out to be a lot of hype - if you have the right tool.

I started this project in Mid February. I have about 10 1/2 months in it. I am averaging about 48 hours a month. I had hoped for 60, but I am happy with my progress.

The "big cut" was a nice way to to end the year.

A nice way to end the year with this step.

Took about 20 minutes to sand both edges to 220 grit.

Enough for one day - very happy.
