Brief Description:  Fit up and painted wing cuffs.

I guess as I get nearer to finishing the plane I am more excited about making progress and less about taking pictures of the process...

While a bit intimidating, fitting up the wing cuffs turned out to be relatively straight forward. I used a piece of plastic from a work report cover sheet to locate the hole for the wing bolt. I cut a strip about 1-1/2" wide, drilled a 3/4" hole in one end, and then taped the other end to the wing with the hole centered over the bolt. With the cuff in place and the plastic strip on the outside of the cuff, the hole in the strip marked where I needed a hole in the cuff. I think I got this idea from the RANS videos on Youtube about the S-21 wing.

With the hole in place, I moved the cuff around a bit and found a sweet spot where it would lay nicely on the windshield. I started drilling for the rivets at the bottom as suggested in the figures manual. Finally I trimmed the outside edge to match the windshield material.

The next day I painted the cuffs, the wing root gap close outs, and the flap cable closeouts. The fixtures I use allow me to flip the parts so I can paint both sides. I usually mount the parts so I have flat surfaces to avoid runs in the clear, but in the case of the cuffs, there are a lot of curves no way to avoid some vertical surfaces. During painting I experienced some runs under the bolt clearance hole, but flipping the part over made them disappear and I ended up with an awesome finish!
