Brief Description: Installed the Dynon Magnetometer.
I fabricated a mounting system and installed the Dynon magnetometer.
Comments:
* Earlier in the project I lost more than several minutes of sleep worrying about where I was going to locate the Dynon ADAHRS with the built in compass in a magnetically benign area and within the limitation of the Dynon specifications. When Dynon released the magnetometer I jumped on the opportunity and my sleep habits were much improved. Since then I have learned that mounting the ADAHRS in the left wing outside of the fuel tank has been working well, but I had this magnetometer in my hands that I needed to find a home for, so I went ahead and installed it in my wing...
* I used 5/8" x 1/16" angle (Mcmaster #8982K5) to fabricate a simple mounting structure that fastened between two ribs.
* I jacked up the rear of my fuselage until it was level according the weight and balance directions (rear of door frame vertical) and then used a straight edge and angle finder between the front and rear wing mounting points and found that the angle of attack in level flight should be 3.0 - 3.1 degrees. I then shimmed the wing and this angle (measure on a compression tube) and installed the magnetometer mount such that the unit was level in all directions. Per the Dynon instructions, I will install the ADAHRS in the fuselage in the same "level flight attitude" manner.
* I made some more simple brackets, similar to what I used for the pitot/static tubing to retain the wire near the front of the ribs. Rubbing alcohol was again used to pass the wire through the 1/4" grommets (Mcmaster #9600K39).
