Brief Description:  New Paint Booth (Area?)

In the process of my divorce I lost the shop I had build my paint booth in. My new house has a very nice shop, but it is about half the size of my old one, so I needed to do something about a new paint booth. I procrastinated as long as possible, doing everything I could think of to the plane that didn't need paint, and finally decided I need to set up a new area to make any more progress.

I don't have much left to paint. The only large items are the cowl and wing tips, and the rest are a bunch of small parts like the close outs and access covers. I can't really justify a full paint booth build, so I chose to do a budget build in the garage stall at my office building.

To convert this space I started by mounting 4 eight foot fluorescent lights on the ceiling, which are powered by simply plugging into the wall outlet. I live in Minnesota, so heat is a necessity. The garage space has a heater, but I didn't want to use it for fear of blowing up, so I covered one of the two doors between the garage and the office space with furnace filters. This allows fresh, and heated, air into the area from the office space.

To exhaust the fumes I built a simple box out of 1/2" pink foam and duct tape. Two box fans pull air from near the floor and exhaust it out the window. It works as well as I had hoped!

I used the copper cooling tubing and filter setup from my previous setup and just mounted it to the wall.

I was concerned that fumes would be an issue in the office area, but I do my painting after work, and my employee says he can't tell the next morning. I wouldn't recommend a set up like this for fuselage and wing painting, but it works for what I need to get finished....
