Brief Description:  Fixed Wavy Tapes.

Fixed wavy tapes on the stabilizers.

The stabilizers were some of the first parts I covered, and I was still learning the process. I found that glue built up along the plastic strips riveted to the top of the elevator ribs, creating a "devil horn" effect. To fix this, I turned up the hobby iron and pressed it across the tops of the "devil horns", trying to be careful and not heat the tapes enough that they shrunk. Most of it worked, but I had four areas that resulted in wavy tapes.

To fix these areas I soaked the area of the tape using a rag wet with acetone until the glue loosened. Once the glue was soft, I was able to slip a thin piece of metal (borrowed from my feeler gage set) under the tape, and I used a razer blade to cut the offending section out of the tape. I was very careful to cut on the metal only, to avoid slicing the underlying fabric.

Once the shrunken section of tape was removed, I cut a new piece of tape to fill in the empty area.

The pinking notches don't quite match up, but everything is in a straight line, I was pleased with the outcome!
