Brief Description:  Boot Cowl Sides - Part 1.

I started working on the boot cowl sides. I have them drilled and cleko'd in place, and the stiffeners are also in place. Next steps are to roll form the bottom edge and mark & drill the stiffener rivet patterns.

Comments:

* Randy warned me about getting the sides in place correctly before drilling the first hole. I didn't find it much of an issue. The manual shows the notch near the landing gear lining up with the bottom of the fuselage stringer. Mine lined up with the center of the tube. I played around with this a bit, but if I lined up the bottom of the tube, then every other edge was obviously out of square, so I lined it up with the center.

* There are two blind holes on each side down by the landing gear mounts. To locate these holes, I put a piece of masking tape on the inside of the side skin, pulled the skin away from the frame a bit and painted a nice heavy coat of black paint on the frame tab with a small brush, then pushed the masking tape into the wet paint.

* I found that the front mid-height tabs needed shims between the stiffeners and the tab. The left side needed 1/8", and the right only 1/32". I used shims I had leftover from installing the side stringers to the fuselage.
