drywall mud technique worked as advertised. After drying all night I sanded it back off with porus drywall sandpaper, then masked, and sprayed primer. No pinholes whatsoever.Tomorrow I will shoot a coat of high build to smooth out the weave a bit and take care of a few other little areas I couldnt see before the primer. I figure this drywall method probably saved me 20 hours vs. the traditional methods.
