Brief Description:  Riveted Rt. Elevator Spar and Ribs

Time to close up the right elevator assembly. I clecoed the counterbalance arm assembly to the right elevator spar and used the pnumatic squeezer and longeron yoke to rivet the assemblies together. I then riveted the upper-right elevator skin to the counterbalance skin, tip rib and root rib, leaving the last three holes open on the tip and root ribs to allow flexibility while working on the trailing edge.

I flipped the elevator over and clecoed the skin to spar, counterbalance skin, and tip and root ribs. Not wanting to have to spend money on sand or shot bags to weight down the elevator skin for riveting, I found that a sack of potting soil works like a charm. I weighted the lower right elevator skin to the spar and used CS4-4 blind rivets to rivet the skin to spar. I used solid AN426AD3-3.5 rivets wherever the 3" squeezer yoke could reach near the bearing cut-outs. I riveted the skin to the spar, working from the center out.

I then riveted the lower-right elevator skin to the counterbalance skin, tip rib and root rib, leaving the last three holes open on the tip and root ribs to allow flexibility while working on the trailing edge.
