Brief Description: Rivet Rudder Horn Brace and Bottom Rib
I clecoed the new rudder horn brace in place and used CS4-4 blind rivets to attach it to the bottom rib and skin on both sides. I decided to use the optional blind rivets as I do not have an appropriate bucking bar to insert in the access hole in the horn brace without hitting the shop head at a slight angle. The blind rivets avoided a sloppy finish or need for a do-over. I was unable to rivet the ends of the horn brace to the bottom rib and rudder horn as I ran out of LP4-3 blind rivets. An order was placed with Van's on 4/18/07 and as soon as they arrive these final seven rivets will be set.
I then used the pnuematic squeezer with 3" yoke to flush rivet the rudder skin, bottom rib and attach strip together. I left the two aft-most holes open on both sides to accomodate some flexibility in the trailing edge while setting the bonding material. All rivets were those suggested in the plans.
