Today I replaced the rudder horn brace. Using a replacement R-710 Horn Brace, I marked the proper cut guideline using the holes provided by Van's as a guide. I then used the Wiss snips to cut the excess material away. I used the 6" Scotch-Brite wheel and grinder to deburr, radius and trim the new horn brace. I final drilled the pre-drilled attach points to #30 and deburred the holes. I then removed the old horn brace and clecoed the new one in place. I then match drilled the sides of the horn brace to the appropriate pre-drilled attach points.
I removed the horn brace and was much happier with the hole placement than the old part. I then deburred the holes and dimpled them with the pnuematic squeezer and 3/32 dimple dies. I primed the new horn brace with NAPA 7220 and left it to dry.
