I replaced electrical tape about 1/2 higher than original and then covered it with blue tape and some protective cardboard over top of canopy.
I bought some of those sanding discs. The sanding disc does a fast job of removing material and it is the right curvature for the transition from the aluminum skin to the canopy. So you can sand using the disc to create the rounded shape.
I also am not going to sand off the metal clips I installed to hold down the canopy. I'll just fiberglass around them. Roger says the fiberglass is strong enough when you remove canopy material and build it up with new fiberglass. But I still like the clips, plus I'd create a bigger problem sanding off the top. What would happen to the rivet and shop head? So the clips stay.
