Brief Description:  Top Latch

I clamped the latch block in place and discovered it was slippery and difficult to get it straight and aligned. So to help I clamped some stiff bar on the bottom of the rib. I noticed on the drawing the bottom of this block is to be flush with the bottom of the rib. So this piece of aluminum will help ensure that.

Also, this is a secondary latch for back up. It's primary purpose is to have something to hang on to for opening and closing the canopy from the inside. So the latch doesn't fit tight up against the bottom of the rib. Also with the canopy open about 4 inches this latch can be turned and used to hold the canopy open for air ventilation during taxi.

With some clamping and checking I finally made pilot holes. Then I drilled the holes thru on the drill press to make sure they went straight thru the block, and not at an angle.

I countersunk the block and the bolts fit flush.

The latch turns 360 degrees and it looks straight to the eye.
