Brief Description:  My Shop Overview

My shop for building an RV-7A is an attached 2 car garage which measures 23 X 25. It has an 18 foot wide single door. Best thing is that it has a 10 foot ceiling and it is all dry walled and painted, except for some cement on the lower portion of two walls.

I had the floor coated with new 2-part polymer paint similar to epoxy paint but with latex paint chips embedded to give it a smoother look with no cracks, wrinkles or blemishes showing. The coating was done by Premier Garage, Woodinville, WA I wanted battleship grey but Premier Garages sand blasted the floor in preparation for the paint coating and created to many cracks, pocks, blemishes and so the solid color looked terrible. They had to use the latex chips to fill in and make it smooth. If I did it again, I'd just use regular epoxy paint with chemical etching and do it myself. The final coating has too many little specs and when I drop a bolt or clip I can't find it.

For extra heat I added a hydronic heater called a Chill Chaser II. It is a unit that takes a feed directly off the hot water tank, into a radiator and blows air across the radiator and into the garage. It puts out about 9,000 BTU with 120 degree water temperature. It has a water pump that circulates water from the tank through its radiator and back to the tank. It contains its own thermostat and when the desired room temperature is reached it turns off both the blower fan and water pump...

I've got plenty of shelves so that I can store normal garage stuff up out of the way and use the floor space for building. My wife agrees her car does not have to go in the shop. It was part of the deal of buying this house. I had a 40X26 detached garage, but my wife wanted to move closer to her mom, and into a neighborhood. So in exchange for building her a house, she gave me the garage. Pretty good deal, I'd say, because it includes buying and building the RV without any hassles.
