I went to the FAA office today and obtained my Repairman Certificate. We had an interesting conversation about Part 43 being the rules. And two extra officers were present for training purposes. I described my build log. I brought a three-ring note book with printout of mykitlog.com/sglynn. There were satisfied and provided the certificate.
But when I got home I had several email conversations with them and got things straightened out. The summary is:
Part 43 doesn't apply to experimental. Repairman Certificate is required by your Airworthy Certificate. Anyone can do work on an Exerpimental. But only the Certified Repairman can sign off the condition inspection or annual.
So after I'm gone then only an A&P AI can sign off annuals.
