Brief Description:  Riveting The Rudder

Riveting The Rudder

Sunday - Planned to get the rudder riveted per plans 6-6, but as they say… the best laid plans.
Per plans started on the spar, rib and associated parts. (Skeleton and horn brace area) Set things up and started to cleco it together. Got it all riveted up, and still moving along although I did have to drill out two rivets on the R606PP Plate.

Moved to cleco the skin(s) R601 on and noticed that they were not lining up just right. Really?. Just had this together 24 hours ago – no issues. Stepped back and looked. And looked. Got some ice tea and looked some more – then I figured it out.

I did not place the R904 Rib correctly with the R405 Rudder Horn (out not in) which screwed up the alignment on the bottom of the R904 Rib and the fwd R901. Great, this is all riveted up and tight (but wrong) So I took a deep breath and started to remove rivets oh so carefully out of the R606 plate. After removing them, took the parts and cleaned them up and shot another coat of primer.

Took a break and reassembled – all was looking good now, so I re-assembled and riveted that area again. Figured I would stop and close down the airplane factory for the evening and I notice that I had riveted the nutplate on the R606PP on the wrong side….What???

Turned off the light.
