Brief Description: Landing gear test
Well, I'm waiting for some more wire to come in to finish the rework of my intercom wiring, so I’ll take care of some other things in the meantime.
I haven’t cycled and tested the landing gear since completing the wiring on that. I was just going to wait and test the first time I roll into the lake, but I’m locking down all the wiring, so I really need to know if it works or not. With these gear motors, you really don’t know whether you got the two wires in the right place until a test. I jacked the plane up until the wheels were off the ground and flipped the switch to raise the gear. I found that I had both actuators wired backwards, and even one set of microswitches. I corrected these, ran the gear up and down several times successfully, then locked-down the wiring with sheathing and clamps. Very glad I went ahead and took care of this, because it was a situation where the wheels were working opposite of each other, and if I had rolled it in the water to test, I’d have to fix it in the water, before being able to roll back up on land.
