Brief Description:  Installing cowling "horns"

Initial factory tests of this cowling saw elevated reduction gear drive temps, being in the back on the enclosure, so the solution was to add these "horns" or cooling ducts to drive cool air right onto the gear. I remember originally not being too keen on the idea, especially thinking it's something to disturb the airflow to the prop, but now that I see it on, it is freakin' cool! It does give it that "turboprop" look, which adds even more intrigue to this Blue Angels seaplane.

The Viking website has a templete that you must use. I contemplated placement slightly off from the templete, but once I put them where they should go and fitted back on the engine, I realized how tight the clearance is, and that it would have conflicted with a piece of the engine if I had not drilled exactly where the template specified.

You use a 3" hole saw, but then have to manually elongate the holes to allow the fit.
