Brief Description:  Finishing the rudder and brake pedals 02

The blocks the pedal mechanism shafts rotate in have to be bolted to the longerons inside the aircraft. The whole mechanism is inserted in the aircraft from the top and rests on the longerons wing bolts running through the longerons. The plans have you fabricate all this while it is easier to get access, the floor is off the aircraft.

I drilled the blocks using the drill press and the measurements on the plans. To drill the longerons I again copyed Dan's technique. After measuring the distance from the firewall (3" minimum) I marked the longerons and removed them. I clamped them to the workbench (see photo 1), marked the correct location for the holes and drilled away. I reassembled everything and placed it back in the aircraft.

The final step is marking and drilling the center support for the pedal shafts. Photo 2 shows the finished product. It was an easy process of marking the hole locations and pulling ouit to be drilled at the drill press. I added a lighening hole and removed some of the excess material in accordance with the plans. Photo three shows everything back in place except for the small block at the center section. Now that I know it fits I can take the rudder pedals out in preparation of disassemblying the fuselage
