Brief Description:  Tire fairing doors for air pressure checks, part 1

While the wheel fairings were in place, I jacked each side and nose up (once at a time) and lined the tire valve stem directly to the 3:00 or 9:00 position aft of the axle. I then lined my laser leveler crossbeams on the valve stem, making an enduring reference point. I then mounted the wheel fairing halves to the wheel, and marked a black sharpy mark on the fairing where the laser lines intersect...that's right over the valve stem. I them drilled a 1" diameter hole on that mark with my step-drill.

The 1" hole equals the raised center portion of the spring-mounted trap doors seen in images 2 and 3. The door has a 1/8" flange that underlays the fairing's inner surface around the hole, but the raised portion of the door fills the hole. In the fairing, I match-drilled #40 two rivet holes and countersank them for AD3 flush rivets.
