Brief Description: Installing Dynon Skyview VHF, part 1
Dynon introduced a new VHF radio that networks into the Skyview system, something I have been waiting for. The radio comes in two parts: A small control head for the panel, and a transceiver that mounts on a sub-panel.
I had not done a good job allocating space for the control head, so I decided to remove the whiskey compass at the top center and use that space. Dynon provided a paper template showing the mounting hole dimensions. I decided to nestle this hole at the bottom of the existing compass hole. I'll fabricate a plug plate to cover the top of the hole, riveted using AD4 flush rivets in the existing screw holes.
I taped and covered the existing avionics to be absolutely sure I don't get aluminum shavings into the electronic works, and ran the vacuum cleaner constantly.
