One good thing about bisecting the snorkel: You can now turn the two parts as required for the best fit between other engine bay components like (in this case) the alternator and starter. However, there was still too little space between the snorkel and alternator, so I went ahead and sanded that part of the surface down: I'l fill and recontour it later with fiberglass.
