Manual Reference:  Heat vent valve 1
Brief Description:  Installing the heat vent valve part 1

The cabin heat vent valve comes assembled with platenuts already installed. However, the hole on one end is covered by the air duct...you cannot get a drill into that hole. To get accurately positioned holes through the firewall, I needed to match-drill holes into the firewall.

Solution: Get a sturdy piece of cardboard, cut out a recess in the middle to accomodate the flapper valve arm, and drill a hole into one end through the accessable platenut (small diameter, of course). Then flip the cardboard template and cleco through first hole into the other platenut (the one covered by the air duct). Now, drill through the original platenut. Result: A cardboard template with two perfectly spaced holes.

After positioning the vent valve assembly over the 2" firewall hole, I center-punched a reference onto the firewall through the un-obscured platenut and drilled that hole. Finally, I transferred the template to the firewall and cleco'd one end of it to that hole I just drilled through the firewall. I then center-punched the other template hole position, removed the template, drilled that second hole, and cleco-d the vent valve assembly to the firewall through those two holes into the valve assembly's platenuts.
