Brief Description: Fuel tank calibration and flow test
Calibrated the fuel tanks today. Filled the left tank in 5 Gal increments (until full) and marked those spots on the sight gauges.
Transferred fuel from left to right tank in 5 Gal increments to repeat sight gauge calibration. Also determined unsuable fuel in each tank.
Pushed aircraft to an inclined location on the airport and positioned carb fuel feed hose so it drips down to to receiver tank. Aircraft angle was 20 degree from horizonatal to represent extreme climb angle.
Flow rate calculated as 17 G/hr with 3 Gal each side (total 6). Max fuel consumption for 3L Corvair estimated at 11 Gal/hr,
17/11*100= 154% of max fuel consumption of engine.
Exceeds minimum required fuel flow for this engine at 20 deg climb angle..
