Brief Description:  ran fuel flow tests

Following a philosophy of testing things as early as possible, I began a fuel flow test. I did not have a good feel for what the actual numbers would be, although the minimum acceptable would have been 150% of the maxumum fuel consumption of the engiine, or about 9 gallons per hour.

My plan was to measure the empty weight of the container receiving the fuel, then measure the weight of the fuel transferred, and convert weight to gallons. At the time flow started, the time would be recorded, and recorded again when it stopped. The ellapsed time would be divided into the fuel flow, and voila! fuel flow in gallons per hour.

I had installed the fuel system in front of the firewall with (temporary) clear plastic tubing. I thought there might be problems, and this would let me see where the problem was.

The theory was good; the results weren't. The rate measured was a couple of gallons/hr for either tank and either pump! I tried moving the pumps ahead of the fuel selector (the normal location), and theory was confirmed: it made no difference.

After a low of fuel in my face and trustration, I learned that the gascolator gasket was somehow obstructing the outlet.
