Brief Description: swapped oil pressure and temperature sensors
|
|
During the break in run, it became evident that the oil temperature and pressure readings were wrong. They simply did not match the engine behavior. About the same time, I stumbled onto some photos on the internet, showing the correct places to measure oil temperature and pressure on the Continental O200.
I had made a guess as to the locations, since the actual Continental documentation was silent in this area. Have I mentioned that the Continental documentation is severely lacking in most respects? That it is crummy, next to useless, and bad? I have now.
What I had done was to swap the correct locations for the two sensors. The pressure sensor would not fit in the spot where it should be installed, so I needed an entension hose. It took almost two weeks for this to be ordered, built, shipped, and received. Immediately following this, I got a cold, which wasted another week.
Finally, today, I got everything mounted, and did a test run. The gauge showed no oil pressure. It became evident the sensor lacked a ground: although the added cable provided a good ground, the fittings used did not. I added the ground, and things began to work.
We'll do a taxi run tomorrow. If all goes well, we're ready for cleanup and inspection.
