Brief Description:  Checked comm radio and added switch

At first, I could get no audio out of the comm radio, although I'd debugged the wires thoroughly during and before installation. I slept on the problem, and then wondered if the headset I was using might be faulty.

1. Connected new headset - voila! Audio.
2. Ran check of radio functions - everything appears to work.
3. For whatever reason, there is no on-off switch on the radio. I consider this unacceptable.
4. Used one of the spare switches for the radio.

Here I ran into an unusual problem. Although the switch had just checked good, it now was shorted between the load terminal and ground. Since there is an LED circuit between the load termnal and ground, it most likely means the LED circuit is shorted.

I checked the other spare switch. It too, now showed a short between the load terminal and ground. I had a bag of spare switches, and all of them showed a similar failure. Identical switches which had a load between the load terminal and ground seemed to be OK.

The approximate time of the failures was about the same time as a solar flare. The only other time I've seen something like this was semiconductors in the presence of a large EMP. Did the solar flare take out my switches? I have no way to prove it one way or the other.

5. Ordered additional switches, and replaced faulty units.
6. The radio now works correctly, and the switch controls it.
