Brief Description:  Skybolt

A James plenum has been installed; this should reduce the air pressure under the top cowl so Skybolt fasteners should be the best way to go. My son, Gus, is helping for once and he is good, so what could go wrong?
You appreciate the Van’s instruction when confronted with many other instructions. Skybolt’s instructions seemed reasonable but in an illogical order. The system seems simple but don’t be fooled. Many of the interlocking flanges need bending to the shape of the cowl and the placement of them was interesting; an Avery rivet fan spacer worked well. All the flanges were corrosion proofed and installed with fuel tank sealant. The floating receptacles, there are six in the kit will be placed on the three bottom holes of the top cowl; my inspector, Matt, says this makes taking the cowl off easier. Once installed the system is very good and probably better than hinges.
