Installing the James Cowl requires reading the Vans, James Cowling, Plenum and Skybolt instructions together. None are very helpful. Starting at the front of the cowl as per the James Cowling, using the cardboard templates and Aluminium rings was the way to go. First the bottom cowl was fitted and then the top cowl using lots and lots, well really days and days of trial fittings and further trimming to achieve a good fit. A mistake was made. Using Skybolt fittings it is advisable to use a shim between the top cowling and the skybolts. The top cowl was over cut when a shim was placed to make a pleasing transition between the cowl and the front skin. A small adjustment will be made to solve this annoyance.
