There are just so many tools involved in the assembly from wrenches, Torque wrenches, different riveting tools, reamers, drills, dimples, bucking bars to clean up tools. To ensure the structures were assembled with care all tools were carefully set out. This helped not only find them but that the final finish is excellent and clean. And tools stay in the workshop and don’t go flying in the aircraft.
Reamers were used to ensure rivets fitted square, tight rivets or slightly out of alignment rivets tend to set badly. It is quicker to set them up well than take a badly set one out. Duralac was used afterwards to insure no corrosion and acetone cotton pads were used to clean and degrease.
