Brief Description:  'Z' Bracket Drilling Procedure

The RV builder’s sites well describe the alternative and easier way of setting up the 'Z' brackets for drilling; it is much less stressful. Bob Ellis suggest in his log to follow the Dan Checkoway's log from 5 June 2002, Richard Horan also has a very detailed section on. This is how it goes, but read the builder site for the detail.
1. Offset the AN bolt holes 1/16" towards the bracket web which gives the pop rivet holes more room. Assemble the tank to the wing with clecos.
2. Drill the end ribs and cleco.
3. Remove the tank skin leaving just the end ribs and closing plate.
4. Match drill the 'Z' brackets through the closing plate.
5. Buy the Avery close riveting tool and everything is perfect.

Note of warning. Drill the middle 'Z' bracket first and work outwards otherwise a slight bulging could occur at one end. Using one bolt and two clecos in each 'Z' bracket hole, it is more precise than using just clecos.
