Brief Description:  Wings - Fabric

I liken fabric covering of your first plane to volunteering to sew a wedding dress for a friend, but not knowing how to sew. Very challenging, many skills to learn and gutwrenching pitfalls to overcome. And if you screw up, you might very well die, But augering in your plane would probably be a kinder death than disappointing a prospective bride and her groom.
So today the topside of the right wing was covered with fabric. When applying the anti-chafe tape to the sharp edges don't forget the little stainless steel tie wraps that go around each Wing Rib and compress the Wing Rib Support Tubes. I did overlook them for the bottom side fabric previously and the ridges that arose in the fabric over each location were alarming when the fabric tightened up. Fortunately I could reach in from the other side of the wing and feed the tape into place after the fact. However when applying the topside fabric you have to put the anti-chafe tape on first.
Before closing in the wing I decided to tighten down the three bearings on the Aileron Torque Tube plus secure the outboard Aileron Torque Tube Horn and the two Retainer Collars because I did not know if I would be able to access these four bolts later on very easily, if at all. Looking ahead to Section 28 step 2.1 it looks like I am expected to minaturize myself to 6" tall and climb inside the covered wing to install and torque up the Aileron Control Horn.
Since working on the bottomside of the wing last week I purchased a small electric soldering iron ($20) which worked much better than pushing a sharp awl through the Reinforcing Tape and Stits Fabric to open the holes for the rivets.
We had some changing weather outside the hangar during the day with little squalls periodically blasting down the runway. And while Hardik was riveting the fabric down to the ribs a double rainbow appeared beyond his head through the hangar door. A good omen, we hope.
