So now able to check the landing gear action I flipped the gear toggle switch, and up and down the main gear wheels went... success! The tail wheel, as I recalled from before, was not so compliant. It would always go down, but only sometimes would retract on its own. When it didn't retract, a light touch on the wheel would cause it to jump into retract position, i.e., swing forward and tuck itself under the tail boom. So, I think (hope) that a minor adjustment only is needed as the basic movement seems to be ok.
Another minor defect is that while the two blue (wheels up) lights work at the toggle switch, only one of the green (wheels down) lights does. But forcing the related limit switch with my finger makes the light turn on properly, so I think I just needed to reposition the limit switch a little.
Good enough for now... onward!
