In Canada homebuilt aircraft have to be inspected and certified by the 'Minister's Delegates - Recreation Aviation Inspection Service' (MD-RA). First step for a builder is to register by sending in a 'Letter of Intent' with $80 and proof of kit purchase showing the make, model and serial number. The whole process should be fairly simple for the SeaRey LSX as it listed on the TCA/FAA 'eligible kit list'. Their website md-ra@md-ra.com has lots of information which I will have to wade through at some point. All I know as of now is that my plane will have have an inspection in my hangar before any covering is put on and then a final inspection. Being where I am in the middle of nowhere I am leery about what the inspector's travel expenses might add up to on top of the inspection fees.
