Brief Description:  Fuel Lines - Firesleeve installation

I decide to install Aeroquip Firesleeve over the Fuel Hoses that are in close proximity to the Engine, and the Oil Hose under the Engine, as a safety measure. These hoses are 1/4", 5/16" and 1/2" in diameter requiring me to order 6 feet of AE102-9, 2 feet of AE102-10 and 2 feet of AE102-14 respectively from Aircraft Spruce plus ten of the special stainless steel clamps. The clamps require a special tool that works like the old sardine can opener. I purchased it from the local hose shop, where the guys there also helped me install the Firesleeves over the hoses. Being a tight fit we found that applying pressurized air to one end of the sleeve and lots of hands (two are not enough, four are better and six are grand) released the stiction and allowed the sleeve to slide over the hose. I 'sealed' the cut ends of the Firesleeve with high temperature silicone RTV so that the fibreglass strands won't wick up fuel or oil. I know that this installation doesn't likely conform with the 'proper' way to do it, but it is a lot better than having totally unshielded hoses near the Engine.
