Brief Description:  Cabin Heater installation

I purchased my CLAH15000B Cabin Heater from Searey Canada (John Dunlop). At 15,000 BTU it will throw a little more heat than the smaller ones that PA offers as an option in their factory assembled Searey LSA. However, it is a little colder in Canada I suspect than in Florida.

There is a lot of discussion on the forums about the best place to install the heater, up front or somewhere in the aft cabin. I chose to go up front as I am a lighter guy and think the extra bow weight could be of advantage to me and the extra weight of hose not an issue, plus the PA manual details how to do the front install.

I didn't order any of the mounting bracket or the aluminum heater tubes from PA as I am just getting a little tired of having to keep ordering stuff from them, paying in US $ (ouch!) and waiting two weeks for delivery.

Instead of aluminum tubes along the cockpit floor I ran the 5/8" ID hose all the way. This required drilling two 1" holes in the FRP Hull Forward Divider Panel (page 6 of Chaper 12.2). I used Adel Clamps to secure the two hoses in three spots in the cockpit to the two Hull Stringers and also to the left and right Boom Support Tubes.

Following in general the PA instructions (Chapter 29.4) I fabricated my own Angles Brackets, Upper Heater Bracket and Lower Heater Bracket out of some aluminum sheet that I had purchased locally awhile back. The Lower Heater Bracket is a little rough and I may redo it out of some 1/8" aluminum angle that I have since purchased.
