Brief Description: Fuel System Installation

Installing the lower half of the fuel system (sump drain Primer Bulb & Fuel Valve, Gascolator, Electric Fuel Pump, In-line Filter, hoses) was spread over two sessions reported here and more to come. Quite a few extra parts had to be ordered that were not included in my kit. In addition, because of the Canadian requirement for a Gascolator at the low point of the fuel delivery system, I had to do some 'engineering' as well.
First looked at was the electric Fuel Pump refered to in Chapter 67. Not included in my kit I had previously ordered a Facet Solid State Electric Fuel Pump from Aircraft Spruce so had it on hand. However, I didn't have the two Aluminum Spacers, 3/16"x1/4", used to hold the pump out from the Bulkhead Strap, so ordered them from Progressive Aerodyne (part of a big order). The two1/8"NPTx3/8" Barb Fittings I bought at the local 'hose' shop.
Section 4.1 talks about the 'Center Tank Support Spacer' which I see no real purpose for and confirmed my earlier decision not to install it (virtually impossible anyway at this late date).
Section 4.2 is the fuel tank sump drain Primer Bulb installation. Since I have a Gascolator which also has a drain that I think I might want to pump overboard as well as the tank sump I have decided to 'customize' my install. I had to order flat and 90 degree Bone Tangs from PA, two of each.
Section 4.3 is the Flow Valve install for the Primer Bulb. I had previously ordered a 2-way valve from Aircraft Spruce to replace the kit's 1-way valve to support my idea for the Gascolator drain. The valve also has to be installed in a 'custom' location per the photos below.
Section 4.4 is for the Rotax 914 engine install so I ignored it - refered to Chapter 67 instead.
Section 4.5 is the In-line Fuel Filter Installion. The Filter, two Adapter Barb Fittings and more aluminum Spacers had to be ordered from PA. Adele Clamps were purchased at the 'hose' shop.
